Twenty Years of Luce dance in Manhattan
New York too was a venue for a remarkable evening that Luce dedicated to the celebration of its 20th vintage. The fitting stage for such a unique occasion was the Jerome Theatre in the Baryshnikov Arts Center, the non-profit foundation established by Russian dance maestro Mikhail Baryshnikov to serve as a creative workshop for young aspirants across the arts spectrum and to promote their talents. Lamberto Frescobaldi and Michael Mondavi introduced the impressive programme, which led off with the projection of the short film, An Outsider In Moltalcino, followed by a dance performance by the Steven Petronio Company, which staged the great Merce Cunningham’s Rain Forest (music by David Tudor and scenery by Andy Warhol), a milestone of modern dance.
The participants then left the theatre and enjoyed a reception at the Howard Gilman Performance Space, which featured classic Italian dishes, paired with Luce.
Over the coming months, the bond between one of Italy’s most prestigious wines and the international art of dance will grow even closer. On 18 June, in fact, the spotlight of Christie’s auction house focused on Luce della Vita, with the catalogue offering a priceless lot of historic Luce vintages. The entire proceeds will go to BAC’s Cage Cunningham Campaign.
